Prophy Jet Polishing

Prophy Jet technology is an alternative to traditional tooth polishing used by dentists. Instead of a rubber cup that rotates to clean your teeth with an abrasive paste, Prophy Jet polishing uses a pressurized spray of water combined with a specially processed sodium bicarbonate or glycine powders (baking soda). Available in a pleasant mint or lemon favor.

Also known as an air polishing system, Prophy Jet cleans plaque, stains, and deposits from teeth and polishes them. The high-pressured water removes dental plaque, while the baking soda acts as an acid neutralizer and a pumice to polish off extrinsic stains caused by foods, drinks, or smoking.

Advantages of Prophy Jet

The many advantages of dental cleaning with Prophy Jet make it a preferred choice among dentists as well as patients. Prophy Jet tends to be more effective than traditional polishing. Furthermore, unlike the traditional rotating hand piece, it does not have distracting vibrations and is a quieter device. Also in contrast to traditional professional dental cleanings, Prophy Jet does not leave an unpleasant aftertaste.

Additional Uses

Besides being used in regular dental cleanings, Prophy Jet polishing may be recommended before your dentist performs dental bonding or places dental braces in your mouth. The elimination of dental plaque and deposits from the teeth will reduce the risk of bacteria growth under the composite resin bonding or braces. In addition, Prophy Jet polishing may be useful in removing surface stains before a teeth whitening procedure. We will be better able to observe the natural color of your teeth, and you will obtain more satisfying results from teeth whitening.

Prophy Jet may not only be used to clean teeth, but dental appliances as well. Appliances such as braces, dentures, and mouth guards accumulate stains over time. We can perform a thorough cleaning of your device if it is beginning to dull and show wear.
